RPS London Street Walk

Project Description

Without a focus on any one genre in my photography, I am always trying new areas in order to find my photo-passion.  Street photography is one of the more challenging areas for me, as I feel very self-conscious using a camera in front of people.  This has led to some uncomfortable moments and it was clear on one of these occasions that I narrowly escaped being assaulted.  The unfortunate result of this is that I pack up my camera for very long periods and shut myself away.  This is where group work is invaluable, as you benefit from the support, energy and ideas of like-minded individuals.

In 2015, I decided to do exactly that and used the benefits of RPS membership to book my partner and myself onto a London Street Walk workshop.  The workshop was run by Robert Pugh of RP Photography by Design, who led us around some of his favourite locations around London.

It was in the run up to Christmas, so the weather was very cold and windy, but this did not deter us.  With everyone wrapped up in thick jackets, woolly hats and gloves against the cold temperatures, we set out on our walk.  It was a very enjoyable day and we saw parts of London that I would not have thought of visiting.  It’s always worth looking down side streets and taking it easy, as you never know what you might find.
